Owner Working Group

Four business owners working on their businesses together, every month.

A small group of owners whose businesses don't compete, each working on their own business with Mark's guidance and the group's experience. You decide whether you do the work yourself, give it to your team, or hire Dont Shut Down to do part of it. The group's job is to keep you moving.

What you get

  • Your goals and first actions, set in your first month, with a business side and a personal side. They start from your Exit Baseline results, a group goal-setting session, and a longer first one-on-one with Mark of about 60 minutes.
  • A monthly group meeting by video. About one hour per owner, so two to four hours depending on group size. Each owner reports on last month's actions, works through what's in the way, and leaves with next month's actions.
  • A monthly one-on-one with Mark, about 30 minutes, for anything you'd rather not raise in the group.
  • A written summary and your action list after every group meeting.
  • Templates and written guidance for the actions in your plan.
  • Questions between meetings by email or phone.
  • A re-score every four months. Your 16 factors are scored again, so you can see what has moved, including how much more your business could sell for.
  • All three gaps, and your full plan built on them, by the end of your first four months: how much more you could earn running like the best in your industry; how much more the business could sell for; and what you personally need from a sale compared with what you have today. The personal number comes from a private worksheet you complete, with your own financial advisor's help if you have one. Mark works it out with you one-on-one. He does not manage your money.
  • Confidentiality. Every member signs the same promise to keep what's shared in the group private.

What it does not include

  • Hands-on work in your business. If you want Dont Shut Down to do it, that's quoted separately as Systems Implementation.
  • Contact with your accountant, attorney, or other advisors on your behalf. You manage your advisors, and we help you prepare for those conversations.
  • Interviews with your management team, a results workshop with your team, or the full in-person assessment. Those come with the Enterprise Value Assessment.

How to join

You join after a completed Exit Baseline, Relisting Readiness Plan, or Enterprise Value Assessment. That's where your plan starts. The Exit Baseline covers your entry, with no second fee.
